Spring and summer are on their way and while everyone looks forward to the nicer weather and longer evenings that these beloved seasons herald, they also bring with them flies and bugs. If you like to keep your door open to let the fresh air, but you don’t love the flies and wasps that see that as an invitation, then a fly screen is a simple and inexpensive solution.
A fly screen is a curtain of chains that hang from a rod. The rod attaches to the top of the door frame so that the chains hang the full height of the door opening. People and pets can easily part them to come in and out of the house but it creates an effective barrier to flying insects. It still allows you to close the door without having to remove the fly screen so you can leave it there all summer.
A fly screen really is a win-win solution as it keeps flies out but still allows fresh air in. It also gives you an element of security too, compared to simply having the door open, as the sound of the chains would alert you to anyone attempting to sneak in.
How to install a fly screen
Fly screens are actually really easy to install. You will need to screw a hook into either side of the door frame and the rod of the screen hangs from these.
What if my door is smaller than the width of the screen?
The rod on the screen is designed to be cut down if required. Simply measure the width of your door and cut it down to size.
What if my door is wider than the fly screen?
If your door is wider, or you have a double door, simply use two fly screens. If two full screens are too wide, simply cut them to the width you require.
The Xterminate Chain Curtain Fly Screen comes in 6 different colours, so you can choose one that complements your décor, and includes 2 extra chains for spares.
